How can you use Claude for Google Ads?

By Tom Claydon, Co-founder, Nudge · Updated 22 Oct 2026

There are four ways to use Claude for Google Ads: upload exported reports to a chat, add Google's own Google Ads skills to Claude Code, have Claude Code call the Google Ads API, or connect an MCP server so Claude reads your accounts directly. Uploads need no setup. An MCP server is the simplest way for Claude to work across many live accounts, and only some servers can make changes.

Disclosure: Nudge publishes this guide and makes Nudge, a hosted Google Ads MCP server for Claude. Facts about other tools come from Anthropic's and Google's own documentation, read on 22 October 2026.

1. How do you analyse Google Ads exports in Claude?

Export a report from Google Ads as a CSV (search terms, campaigns, keywords) and attach it to the chat. Anthropic allows files up to 500MB each and 20 per chat. For analysis with code, Claude works on CSV or TSV files up to 30MB each. Excel files need "Code execution and file creation" switched on.

Best for: a one-off look at one account. Limits: the data is a snapshot, and you repeat the export each time.

2. What are Google's Google Ads skills for Claude Code?

Skills are, in Anthropic's words, "folders of instructions, scripts, and resources that Claude loads dynamically". Google publishes skills for agents, installed with:

npx skills add google/skills/skills/ads --agent=claude-code

Three of them are about the Google Ads API: account diagnostics, setting up Google's Google Ads MCP server, and an API quickstart. They help Claude Code set things up; they do not give it access to your accounts on their own.

3. Can Claude Code work with the Google Ads API directly?

Yes. Claude Code can write and run scripts against the Google Ads API using Google's client libraries and the Google Ads Query Language (GAQL). This is the most flexible route, and the most work: you manage credentials, API access levels and any safety checks yourself. Google's change history resource, change_event, only reaches back 30 days through the API.

4. What does an MCP server add?

An MCP server connects Claude to your Google Ads accounts so you can ask in plain English, in Claude on the web, desktop or Claude Code. Google's own server is free and "strictly read-only". Hosted servers vary: some only read, some can change bids, budgets, keywords and ads.

What should you ask Claude?

Start with tracking, then wasted spend, structure, ads, and bids last. We keep a list: 40 Claude prompts for Google Ads, in audit order.

Is it safe to let Claude change Google Ads?

Only with a tool that asks you to approve every change, checks it against the live account first, caps budget increases, and can undo it. See six checks before an AI agent touches client accounts.

Where does Nudge fit?

Nudge is a hosted MCP server (way 4) built for agencies. Ask about any client account in Claude; Nudge works through it in a fixed order, tracking first, ranks what it finds by money at stake, and proposes fixes. You approve each one; it is checked against the live account, budget rises are capped, and any change can be undone in one step.

Watch out for: Nudge covers Google Ads only, works inside Claude only, and is in private access.

Questions

Can Claude manage Google Ads?

Claude can analyse Google Ads data in any of the four ways above. It can change accounts only through a connector or code with write access.

Is there a Claude plugin for Google Ads?

Claude reaches Google Ads through connectors (MCP servers). Claude plugins can bundle skills and connectors, but the connector is the part that reads your account. Google publishes a free read-only Google Ads MCP server, and several companies offer hosted ones.

Do I need to code to use Claude for Google Ads?

No. Uploading reports or adding a hosted MCP server needs no code. Google's own server and the API route need technical setup.

Does Claude for Google Ads need a developer token?

No. Google sunset developer tokens on 9 September 2026; API access now depends on your Google Cloud project's access level.
