What does the Google Analytics MCP server do?

Google's Google Analytics MCP server lets Claude run GA4 reports in plain English. It is free and open source, Google labels it experimental, and it runs on your own computer with a Google Cloud project. The released version reads data only; Google has added one opt-in tool for creating annotations, not yet in a release.

What can it do?

Its tools, by Google's names:

Account and property: get_account_summaries, get_property_details, list_google_ads_links, list_property_annotations.
Reports: run_report, run_funnel_report, run_realtime_report, get_custom_dimensions_and_metrics.
Coming: create_property_annotation, which Google says "requires passing the --allow-write flag and the analytics.edit scope". The latest release, 0.7.0 from 29 July 2026, does not include it.

How do you set it up with Claude Code?

In a Google Cloud project, switch on the Google Analytics Admin API and the Data API.
Make sure your Google account can view the GA4 property.
Set up Application Default Credentials with the read-only analytics scope.
Add it to Claude Code. Google's README gives:

Google does not offer a hosted version, so it is not a one-click connector for Claude on the web.

Check each client's GA4 property is linked to the right Google Ads account (list_google_ads_links).
Compare Google Ads clicks with GA4 sessions and key events by landing page, to find tracking gaps.
Run a funnel report to show where paid visitors drop off.
